Benedict Cumberbatch was born on July 19, 1976 to actors Wanda Ventham and Timothy Carlton. He began acting when he was in school. He returned to finish his studies in acting while he was worked in films, TV, radio and theater. It was his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in the television series Hawking in 2004 that got him the much deserved acclaim.
He established a strong fan base as he featured in the popular TV series Sherlock (2010). Since then Benedict Cumberbatch has featured in a series of critically acclaimed films War Horse (2011), Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011), Star Trek : Into the Darkness (2013), 12 Years of a Slave (2013), etc . Benedict definitely comes across as an actor of great mettle and a man of great substance. He has managed to replace stars like Brad Pitt in The Lost City of Z and Guy Pearce in Black Mass.
He was also ranked in Time’s Most Influential People in the World list. Benedict enjoys a strong fan following who proudly call themselves ‘Cumberbitches’.
Such is his fan base all over the world that the mere presence of the actor at an event or a project makes it go viral and an instant hit.
The actor somehow manages to look dashing all the time leaving no room for any sort of plastic surgery rumors to surface. His unconventional looks are definitely the most striking part of his personality.
He managed to win many hearts with his natural, imperfect yet attractive looks at a time when almost the entire Hollywood is busy fixing appointments with plastic surgeons to enhance their looks and shape in every way and through all means possible.
He has become an iconic antithesis to everything superficial that sells in Hollywood. Benedict refuses to be to be stereotyped and conform to the regular standards of beauty in Hollywood coming across as a Byronic hero whose very appeal lies in his unconventionality. This has given Benedict a diversity that allows him to fit into a range of roles.
Going by the norm in Hollywood, his features might be considered slightly odd. His natural aspects include a vaguely defined mouth, a slender jaw (instead of the angular, square one that most male celebs desire), angular cheekbones and eyes that are situated disproportionately far from each other.
Still the actor, who has never shied away from experimenting with his looks in order to get into the skin of a character he is portraying onscreen, has never resorted to any unnatural surgical procedures in order to improve his looks.
Feminist blog Jezebel once addressed him as “your boyfriend Benedict Cumberbatch” on account of a long list of virtues that the actor has including his intelligence, chivalry, sense of humor and his regard for humanity at large.
